Meet the Farmers

Bob & Colleen Browning

In June of 2015, Bob and I made the move to south-central Kentucky with the intention of simplifying our lives and deepening our connection to God and nature. We’re passionate about permaculture and truly embrace the homesteading lifestyle.

I grew up in a large farming family in northern Illinois, where we raised livestock and ran a grain operation. With seven siblings and a stay-at-home mom, we spent a lot of time gardening, canning, and freezing fruits and vegetables. We also helped our dad in the fields, doing everything from walking beans to hoeing down weeds. Much of that knowledge has been carried with me to our homestead. Bob, on the other hand, grew up in the suburbs but spent a lot of time gardening with his mom and grandmother. He also learned how to preserve food, and he’s long had a desire for a self-sustaining lifestyle.

Together, we make an interesting pair, both of us being hard workers, environmentally conscious, and driven by a desire for a meaningful, hands-on way of living. Getting our hands dirty and learning new skills has been incredibly fulfilling. There’s something so deeply personal and rewarding about working with the land and animals—it feels like it brings us closer to who we truly are.

Permaculture has taught us that when you work with nature, you not only heal the land but also your soul. It's a way of living that’s good for both the body and spirit.
